Information
Telemark Classic
he Telemark Classic is the most rigorous discipline of Telemark racing. The race is held in only one run and is divided into different slope sections: After the start, between 10 and 15 giant slalom gates are skied first. This is usually followed by the first 360° steep turn to give the racer the speed for the next section - the skating section. The telemark racer now sets off on the skating course, which he completes using the skating technique familiar from cross-country skiing. After the skating course, several giant slalom gates are skied again until the ski jump. The telemark skier must jump a minimum distance, otherwise penalty seconds will be imposed on him. After the jump there are more giant slalom gates and another 360° steep turn followed by a skating course and finish. A telemark racer is on such a course between two to four minutes. It should be noted that the racer must always remain in telemark stride in the gates - otherwise the gate judges will impose a penalty second on him.
Telemark Sprint Classic
The Telemark discipline Sprint Classic is structured in the same way as a Classic race, but the course and therefore the running time is shorter, but the racer completes two runs.
Telemark Parallel Sprint (TPS)
It doesn't get any better than this?
The Swiss Telemark team proved otherwise after years of dominance and experienced a 2020/2021 season of superlatives. With nine crystal balls, the Freeheelers cleared all possible balls.
You have to let that roll off your tongue: For the sixth time in a row, the Swiss Telemark Team won the World Cup Nations Ranking 2020/2021. Of 72 possible World Cup podium places, 43 went to the Swiss team - 20 times athletes from Swiss-Ski were able to celebrate on top of the podium (11 times Amélie Wenger-Reymond, 5 times Bastien Dayer, 3 times Nicolas Michel, 1 time Beatrice Zim- mermann). 83 percent of the victories went to the team of Hans-Peter Birchler (Head of Telemark) and Ruedi Weber (Head Coach Telemark).
It is therefore not surprising that the picture at the top of the national rankings at the end of the 2020/2021 season is the same as in the past five years: Switzerland as the winner.
And one thing is clear: the Swiss Telemark Team will also be ready in 2022 and 2023.
